Silver City is situated in the greater centre of Sofia, on the southern side of one of the most prestigious living quarters – Lozenetz, just opposite the South Park. The development is in close proximity to the US Embassy, the “Lozenetz” Hospital (also known as the government hospital, the Kempinski Hotel, several business centres, the SofiaLand amusement park and the Zoo. Silver City garden terraces offer magnificent views to Vitosha mountain. The great German traveller Otto von Rundshtet has written “The Vitosha for Sofia is as the Vesuvius for Naples”. Beautiful and green in summer and snow covered in winter with skiing facilities and slopes just 15 min drive from Silver City.North from Silver City, across the road, is the South Park, a favourite place of Sofia residents for leisure. The National Hall of Culture (convention centre) is in the same direction, just 5-7min drive. The area has no industrial production, the air is clean and fresh and greenery abandons. Centrally located and yet a lot of nature around – that’s Silver City!
Sofia was founded three thousand years ago, by an ancient Thracian tribe, the ‘Serdi’, and known as Serdica until the beginning of the ninth century. Nowdays Sofia is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Bulgaria. It is located in western Bulgaria, at the foot of the mountain massif Vitosha, and is the administrative, cultural, and industrial centre of the country. Sofia is also the country`s financial hub, home to the Bulgarian National Bank, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, as well as some of the country`s largest commercial banks. Construction, trade and transport are other important sectors of the local economy. Increasingly Sofia is attracting attention as an outsourcing location for Western European and American multinationals. Sofia is also the headquarters for major Bulgarian and international companies operating in Bulgaria and Eastern Europe.
Dramatically ringed by the Balkan Mountains to the north and the Vitosha Mountains to the south, the capital stands on an open plain 550m above sea level. Owing to its altitude, the summers are moderately hot and the winters cold and snowy, making spring and autumn the best times in which to visit. Since ancient times the city was famous for the abudance of cold and thermal mineral water springs in and around it. The water is still available today and is praised for its numerous qualities. Springs may be found in the city center, as well as in the neighbourhoods: Kniazevo, Gorna Bania, Bankia, Ovcha Kupel and Ivaniane.
Why Sofia is a good place for investments
The political will, the leadership of Sofia Municipality in the person of the city mayor and his team, and of the municipal council, are fully in favour of decisive reforms and the attraction of foreign investments.
Sofia Municipality has a comparatively good credit rating - better than that of the state.
The municipality owns property and enterprises, which it offers for privatization.
Sofia municipality has 115 companies, which work in different branches.
The total number of employed in municipal economy is about 30,000. The total amount of fixed assets (private municipal property) operating in municipal economy is more than US$600 million.
Speeding up the process of municipal privatization led to accumulating of some funds from selling of municipal enterprises. For their effective usage was created a Municipal Privatization Fund.
Sofia's geographic location within Bulgaria is such that it favours investors, insofar as it is located on an international motorway - the motorway from Belgrade to Istanbul.
Sofia has a large potential of human resources - about one and a half million inhabitants and a significant number of new arrivals. On the other hand, this is where the country's most qualified manpower is concentrated. It is indicative that the level of unemployment is comparatively higher in the capital. At the same time, manpower is not expensive. On the contrary, considering its high qualification it is relatively cheap.
The number of telephones in Sofia is large. City transport is relatively well organised compared to other towns and cities in the country. Road facilities are in good condition.
Investment, as well as any other form of economic activity on the territory of Sofia, is facilitated by the fact that respective programs have been adopted for the development of the urban infrastructure, the city environment, the restructuring of the municipal economy and the development of sectors with a direct bearing on the life of citizens. These are primarily transport, central heating, cleanness, water supply and sewerage.
Independence of the municipality is guaranteed by the economy of its budget. The budget is basis of implementation of all activities of the Sofia Municipality. The collection of revenues is a prerogative of Sofia tax administration which is subordinated to the Ministry of Finance.
